Conditions I Treat with Massage in Brighton

Tight hips, bad backs, sports injuries, stress, poor sleep. I work with all of it. Below are the problems I see most often, how massage helps each one, and the treatment that suits it best.

An honest word first. Massage works alongside medical care, not instead of it. It's brilliant for the muscular and fascial tension that drives so much everyday pain, but it doesn't diagnose or cure structural problems. If something needs a GP, physio or specialist, I'll tell you honestly and point you the right way.

Back & Spine

Back Pain

Tight, overworked muscles pulling on the surrounding tissue are often behind both lower and upper back pain. Deep tissue and sports massage work through those layers to release tension and free up movement. Where the restriction sits deeper in the fascia, myofascial release reaches what pressure alone often can't.

Sciatica

That sharp, radiating pain down the leg is often driven by tight glutes and deep hip muscles pressing on the sciatic nerve, rather than the nerve itself being damaged. Deep tissue and myofascial release work through the hips, glutes and lower back to take pressure off the nerve and calm the pain down the leg.

Herniated or Bulging Discs

Surrounding muscle and fascial tension can make disc symptoms noticeably worse by adding compression to already sensitive structures. Gentle myofascial release and soft tissue work ease that tension and take pressure off the affected area. I work alongside your GP or physio here, never instead of them.

Scoliosis

A curved spine loads the body unevenly, leaving chronic tightness and restriction on one side. Myofascial release and soft tissue massage work through those compensating patterns to ease discomfort and help your body handle an asymmetrical spine more comfortably.

Poor Posture

Rounded shoulders and a stiff upper back usually come from tight, shortened muscles, old injuries or years spent sitting. Sports massage and deep tissue release what's pulling you out of position so your body can settle somewhere more natural. Massage won't fix posture on its own, but it clears a lot of what's working against you.

Neck, Shoulders & Jaw

Neck Pain & Whiplash

Tension through the neck and upper back is one of the most common things I see, whether it's from desk work, stress, or the lingering fascial restriction that follows whiplash. Deep tissue, trigger point and gentle myofascial release ease the held tension without forcing already sensitive tissue.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is often driven by trigger points in the rotator cuff, upper back and chest rather than the joint itself. Trigger point massage and deep tissue release those areas and bring back a comfortable range of movement.

Frozen Shoulder

Adhesive capsulitis involves real restriction in the soft tissue and fascia around the joint, not just the joint itself. Myofascial release and sports massage work through that tissue gradually, easing the stiffness that makes everyday movement so uncomfortable.

TMJ & Jaw Pain

Trigger points in the jaw, face and neck are a common and often missed cause of jaw pain, clicking and clenching. Trigger point massage and myofascial release in these areas can bring real relief where other approaches haven't lasted.

Headaches & Migraines

Many headaches start in the muscles of the neck, shoulders and the base of the skull rather than the head itself. Easing those trigger points with trigger point massage and myofascial release can reduce how often tension headaches show up and how hard they hit.

Hips, Legs & Feet

Hip Pain

Tight hips usually trace back to imbalances in the glutes, hip flexors and surrounding fascia, built up through training or long hours sitting. Sports massage and deep tissue work through those patterns to restore balance and free up movement.

Leg Pain

Leg pain is often driven by tension higher up the chain, through the hips, glutes or lower back. Sports massage and myofascial release follow those connected patterns rather than only treating where it hurts.

Foot & Ankle Pain

Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tightness and general foot pain often start in the calf, shin and surrounding fascia. Myofascial release and sports massage to the lower leg and foot ease those restrictions and settle the discomfort.

Nerve & Repetitive Strain

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Median nerve compression is often made worse by fascial restriction and muscle tightness in the forearm and wrist. Myofascial release and soft tissue work here can reduce symptoms and improve how the nerve moves.

Repetitive Strain Injury

RSI builds when the same movement repeats day after day without enough recovery. Tradespeople, drivers, musicians, hairdressers and desk workers are all prone to it. Deep tissue and trigger point massage work through the overused tissue and give it a proper chance to recover.

Joint Stiffness

Stiff joints are often a soft tissue problem rather than a joint one. Myofascial release and sports massage improve tissue quality and restore range of movement, easing that locked-up feeling.

Sport & Recovery

Sports Injuries & Recovery

Sports massage speeds recovery by improving circulation, easing adhesions and keeping soft tissue in good order. Whether you're managing a niggle or coming off a heavy training block, targeted hands-on work moves things along.

Muscle Weakness or Imbalance

Imbalances build when some muscles stay chronically tight and others switch off as a result. Sports massage and myofascial release release the tight, overactive side so the weaker muscles can start pulling their weight again.

Stress, Sleep & Wellbeing

Stress & Anxiety

Stress lives in the body as much as the mind. Relaxation massage stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowers cortisol and gives your nervous system permission to rest in a way daily life rarely allows.

Sleep Quality

Poor sleep is often a body that can't switch off. Massage lowers cortisol, calms the nervous system and releases the physical tension that keeps you on high alert at night. Many people notice better sleep after a single session.

Chronic Fatigue or Ongoing Stress

Under sustained stress the body struggles to repair and recover. Regular massage takes some of that physical load off, calms the nervous system and creates better conditions for the body to heal.

Vertigo & Balance Issues

Tension in the neck, suboccipital muscles and surrounding fascia can feed dizziness and balance problems. Gentle myofascial release in these areas may help, particularly where the issue has a muscular or postural component.

Common Questions

Can massage cure my condition?

I'll always be straight with you. Massage doesn't cure structural problems like a bulging disc or scoliosis, but it eases the muscular and fascial tension that so often drives the pain and stiffness around them. For a lot of people that's the difference between struggling and getting on with their day.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem. A one off session can bring real relief, but something that's built up over months usually takes a few visits to properly shift. After your first treatment I'll give you an honest idea of what's realistic rather than book you in more than you need.

Do I need a diagnosis before I come?

No. You can book without one. If I think your symptoms point to something that needs a GP, physio or scan first, I'll say so clearly and help you take the right next step.

Is massage safe with a disc, nerve or joint problem?

In most cases yes, with the right adjustments. The key is telling me what's going on before we start, so I can adapt the pressure and the areas I work. If massage isn't suitable for you right now, I'll tell you honestly.

Do Any of These Sound Familiar?

If something here matches what you've been dealing with, let's have a chat about it. Book online or give me a call and we'll work out whether massage is the right place to start.
